From the recommendation, the personnel director to the President of Acme Publishing Company held the point that Acme should order all of its employees to take the Easy Read course. He held the point because one graduate of the course is able to read a 500-page report in 2 hours, and another graduate rose from an assistant manager to vice president in only a year. What’s more, he has thought that the fast reading speed could help people learn more from the passage, and the course could help people to read more quickly. Lastly, the course will not cost to much money, which could help to save funds of the company.
The ideas of the personnel argued above seem very logical at the first glance, however, when analyzing carefully, we could see that the points that the director held are not logical enough. Firstly, the point that the director believed that people taking this course will get a higher ability of reading may be not happen on each of the employees. Truly there are some employees having taken this course are very good at reading and absorbing messages from the report, but this may not be due to the course. Those who do well in reading may be good at the job from very early, and they may have develop this ability since many years ago. What’s more, some people are genius, and they may do well in the reading job without the use of the Easy Read course. So from this we could say that the writer did not prove the issue in detail.
What’s more, the personnel director held the point that the more people read fast, the more amount of messages they will absorb from the report. This may not be logical as well. For example, some people read the passages rapidly, just like reading a novel, but they only get some of the messages from the passage, and these messages may not seem very important to the thesis of the report. In the other word, when people read fast they may focus their attention on the speed, but not the main ideas of the reports. If so, there will be nonsense for them to read a report.
Furthermore, they director has thought about that the course will not cost so much money for the company, which makes the course worth trying. However, he may not think about one thing. If the course is truly useful, why does the course have to ask for such a low price? This may because that this course has no actually use in the daily works.
Then from the all the points issued above, we could draw a conclusion that the Fast Read course may not have such great use as the director think about. And if the personnel director would like to prove that the course is worthy of trying, he should make more introduction of the course logically and in details. |
