Do you agree or disagree that students should be given assignment everyday?
As the future force for the development of a society or a nation, school students are always under high expectations. In order to enhance their capabilities or performances in all area, some people propose that students should be assigned homework every day. Personally, I agree with this opinion for the following reasons.
First of all, everyday assignment could help student keep contact with what they have learned in school in a daily base. Under modern education system, a student will encounter much more new knowledge in school than the past, homework then plays a very important role in assisting student to review and preview. Taking a high school student as an example, he or she may study math, geology, biology, history many other subjects in one day, each of this courses requires him or her to remember many things, homework, like exercises from textbook can help him or her to review what have been taught in classroom and accomplish the reciting work more easily and efficiently. Furthermore, assignment could enhance students’ absorption of knowledge in many science courses like physics or chemistry. In doing homework, students can attain better and more practical understanding of certain principles or laws, building up good foundations for their future study.
In addition, assignment would inspire students to learn more in many ways. Teachers give assignments in diverse forms, students may be asked to write papers, or to conduct a survey, or to give presentations about certain topics. Different content of the homework could draw students’ attentions from many perspectives, from this homework, students may obtain new and interesting founds about an academic area, which will greatly motivate them to think more and be eager to learn more. For instance, in doing research work for a midterm paper, a student with history major may confront of some detailed materials that they did not pay attention to before, and he or she may be interested in going deeper with new issues or topic, and thus work even hard in this area.
Admittedly, sometimes students are overwhelmed by too much homework that they may lose the interests of study new knowledge. We all have experiences about preparing for an exam, compared with what we have to do in normal daily study, the workload needed for it will definitely be higher. When teachers assign too much homework in order to push students to work harder to pass the exam, students will feel boring in finishing it and worse more, they might no longer willing to learn, the result contravened the former goal.
In conclusion, considering all the merits and demerits of daily homework, to assign students’ homework every day is a good idea overall. Because it helps students to keep in touch with new knowledge and it also contributes to give student more motivations to learn. And I am in support of this proposal.
