Unit 1 - Person

Who is the person in your family who has greatly influenced your life?

Who is a person in your family that has influenced your life a lot?

Is the person one of your parents or grandparents?

Which aspects of him or her influenced you?

Are those aspects related to his or her personality or behavior?

How has your life changed because him or her?

In my family, my mother has influenced me greatly because she has so many good qualities. She is very well-educated and keeps open-mind. Her thinking is very modern. She is able to understand people from different generations. In addition, she is a good listener. This makes her tolerant of other people opinions. Her personal value sets a good example for me to follow in my own life. The way she treats people and thinks makes me want to become the best person I can be. This is why I think my mother has influenced me most in my life.

Unit 2 - Culture

What do you think is the rude behavior according to your culture?

What kinds of behavior are considered rude in your culture?

Which one is the most offensive?

Who behaves such a manner?

What happens when someone is treated this way?

Were you ever treated this way?

How does this rude behavior make people feel?

The rudest thing a person can do in our culture is to ignore someone. It cuts off all communication. Ignoring someone shows selfishness and a lack of respect to others. If I am trying to catch someone’s attention at the meeting to discuss something or in a store for assistance, it can be very embarrassing to be ignored. It can hurt people feelings and make people lose self-confidence. Furthermore, it makes anyone witnessing this rude behavior uncomfortable. Overall, the rudest thing you can do is to ignore someone as it hurts everyone involved.

My high school graduation is the most memorable event in my life because it was such a special day. During that graduation, we were each called up one of the time to the stage. We each received a diploma and everyone applauded our

Do you have some special experience related to animal?

If I could have a pet, I would have a giraffe. It is the most majestic animal in the world. It is tall and sleek. It bends down gracefully to pick leaves from trees using its long tongue and powerful lips. Its fur coat is the most beautiful found in the desert. A yellow background with large brown circle places here and there. The * is grace and beauty. It is an awkward animal when it runs. It is always looked going to fall over with each step. Chapter 2 2.2

2.2 Unit 1 -Agree or disagree

Chores

Children should be helping with chores at the house as soon as they are able to do so. Do you agree or disagree with the statement?

I agree with the statement and believe that children should be encouraged to help maintain the family home.

Children can learn new practical skills.

Doing chores teaches responsibility.

Children develop lifelong habits.

Doing chores teaches children skills and personal satisfaction which is why I think they should be asked to do them as soon as they are able.

I agree with the statement and believe that children should be encouraged to help maintain the family home. First of all, this is how they learn new practical skills and they can practice immediately while carrying out their chores. By helping in the home, children can contribute to the family. Overtime this activity builds pride and self-confidence. Secondly, having works others are counting on teaches child responsibility. Throughout the process a child is building good lifelong habits like cleaning their room. Furthermore, they learn to manage their time. Doing chores teaches children skills and personal satisfaction which is why I think they should be asked to do them as soon as they are able.

2.2 Unit 2 -Beauty

Beauty is in the eye of a holder. Do you agree or disagree with the statement?

I agree that beauty is the eye of a holder because individuals see the world in their own personal way.

Beauty would reflect one's tastes and opinions.

Beauty is a * of one's preferences mixed with culture and identity.

We * people more beautiful as I come to know them better.

The influence of the culture values and personal familiarity is what created beauty in the eye of a holder.

I agree that beauty is in the eye of a holder because individuals see the world in their own personal way. Beauty therefore reflects the tastes and opinions of any individual. This personal view holds true whether beauty is been viewed in a person or object *. It is likely that a person's idea of beauty * his or her own preferences mixed with his or her own culture. For example, a person might have learned to value external qualities like * delicate futures as well as inner qualities like patient and humor. Another culture might have totally different standards for what is beautiful inside and outside. Nevertheless I think that we * people more beautiful as we come to know them better. The influences of a culture value and personal familiarity is what created beauty in the eye of a holder.

2.2 Unit 3 –Success

Success can only be measured by the money you earn. Do you agree or disagree with the statement?

I disagree with the statement that a person success in life can only be measured by money.

Although as a society we often judge people by their professions and how much money they earn, it does not cover the whole story of success.

Fulfilling a dream can also be called success.

Most of all we can measure a person success by the healthy relationships they form with family and friends and by the satisfaction in the work that supports their daily needs.

I disagree with the statement that a person success in life can be measured by money. Although as a society we often judge people by their professions and how much money they earn, it does not cover the whole story of success. For example, someone who works hard to open a business is more successful than one who simply inherits from successful parents. Furthermore, fulfilling a dream, starting a business, singing a *, traveling a place one was always hoping to see can all be called success. Most of all we can measure a person success by the healthy relationships people form with family and friends and by their satisfaction in the work that supports their daily needs.

2.2 Unit 4 –Decision

Decisions made quickly are often wrong. Do you agree or disagree with the statement?

Some people believe that decisions made quickly are often wrong, but I disagree with this statement because I have seen the situations where they turn out to be very right.

First impressions are always right.

Usually a quick decision is based on past experiences, so we can be reliable.

Quick decisions are critical in situations with little reaction time.

Overall I maintain that quick decisions can be both necessary and right.

Some people believe that decisions made quickly are often wrong, but I disagree with this statement because I have seen situations where they turn out to be very right. For example, I trust my first impressions when I meet people. A few of my very good friends are people that I chose to like immediately in a point of meeting them. Usually a quick decision is based on past experiences, so we can be reliable. Fast thinking helps doctor save lives in emergency wards and start brokers make good deals on the trading floor. Quick decisions are critical in situations with little reaction time such as when I must suddenly make a decision in the traffic. Overall I maintain that quick decisions can be both necessary and right.

2.2 Unit 5 –Professional athletes and entertainers

Some people feel that professional athletes and entertainers are overpaid when they received millions of dollars for their work. Do you agree or disagree with the statement?

Entertainers and athletes rely on talents that not everyone has, and so I agree that they deserved their high salaries.

Not only are they talented but also they have often spent most of their lives preparing for their roles.

Dedication also helps many people around them make money.

They risk injuries such as lost voices and damaged their bodies that shorten careers.

Since their talents contribute to economic success at so many businesses, I do not believe that their salaries are out of line.

Entertainers and athletes rely on talents that not everyone has, and so I agree that they deserved their high salaries. Not only are they talented but also they have often spent most of their lives preparing for their roles. For example, athletes train their sports skills and keep fit. Entertainers must constantly train their voices, acting *, or music talent. Their dedication also helps many people around them make money. They serve very important functions in educating people about animals.

Zoos protect and take care of animals.

Zoos are fun for families to visit together.

In conclusion, zoos protect animals and provide opportunity to educate and entertain the public.

I disagree with the notion that zoos are not serving a useful purpose. In fact, they serve very important functions in educating people about animals they might never see otherwise. As most people live in cities, this is the only way to see and learn about animals. Some animals such as pandas or certain monkeys are endangered species. In the zoo, trained zookeepers take care of them. While they live safely and breed, scientists can study them and find solutions to problems in animals’ natural environments. Additionally zoos are fun for families to visit together. In conclusion, zoos protect animals and provide opportunity to educate and entertain the public.

2.2 Unit 7 –Teaching

Some people believe young people don't have anything to teach old people. Do you agree or disagree with the statement?

I disagree that young people have nothing to teach those who are older because young people possess learning particular to use.

Most young people are naturally curious and they are not already tired of what they have seen.

Fresh airs help them discover new ways * from old ideas or inventing entirely new ones.

Young people observe * of the world * from old people and are not afraid of change.

For these reasons, I feel that young people have much to teach old people.

I disagree that young people have nothing to teach those who are older because young people possess learning particular to use. Firstly, most young people are naturally curious and are not already tired of what they have seen. Secondly, these fresh airs help them discover new ways * from old ideas or inventing entirely new ones. As a result of this perspective young people have been * in many scientific and technological discoveries. In fact it is the old generation who is following the leader of many young people especially in technology. Young people observe and * of world * from older people and are not afraid of change. For these reasons, I feel that young people have much to teach old people.
