Q:Some people think university professors should spend more time doingresearch while others think they should spend more time educating students. What is your view?
2、培养出的优秀学生可以帮助教授一起做研究,为教授分担研究项目
3、教授不投入足够的时间教学生,学生会对学习相关专业失去热情,跟别说激发兴趣了。
With more people pay attention to education, the topic that whetheruniversity professors should spend more time doing research or educating students caused a heated debate. As far as I am concerned, university professors should put instructing studentsin the first place. Among countless respects, there are three conspicuous reasons as follows.
The main reason for my propensity is that it is difficulty for students tomake huge progress without professors’s elaborately cultivating. Takingstudents of computer major for instance, for one thing, some of thestudents know little about the basicknowledge in computer science. In order to save more time to do research, it islikely that professors will not explain relevant concepts which are easy in theview of the professors in detail. Undoubtedly, students have to spend more time to figure out these complicated definitions .Foranother, some of the students have relatively solid theoretical foundation incomputer science. Even though the related concepts is no more a big problem tothem, they anticipate something more practical. And in order to satisfy thisexpectation, professors have to spend more time and stamina to prepare lecturenotes before having class. Otherwise, Precious time of the students can not betaken advantage of. More efforts need to be made by students in order toacquire a great advance in study.
The argument I support in the first paragraph also in a position ofadvantage, because professors can foster sufficient students as candidates who are qualified to do the researchwith the professors. This phenomenon is widespread in university and benefitboth students and professors. In the process, students can learn more knowledgeand practical experience when completing a relevant project with professors. Thoseexperiences make good preparations forstudents's further development in the future career. Correspondingly, sincestudents participate in doing research, professors have more time to relax and more vigor to educate students. We have no reason to against this kind of mode.
Although I agree there may be several advantages of devoting more time todo research. I believe that the disadvantages are more obvious. Professors whoare busy with doing research have relatively less time to dedicated tocultivate students. Insufficient preparation for the class will decreasestudents's enthusiasm toward the class, not to say, inspiring their intereststo the certain major. When that keeps happening, educational meaning and valuewill lose gradually.
In conclusion, professors's direction have a significant influence on notonly the students's enthusiasm toward a certain major ,but also how muchprogress they may make in the same period. Taking into account all of thesefacts, it's not hard to reach a point that cultivating students is as importantas, if not more important that doing research. |
