In my mind, A is right.
Maybe you will say that "compared with most sport utility vehicles, " is awkward in the sentence.
Then I will tell you "compared with most sport utility vehicles," makes sense here, because it functions as an  parenthesis and appears just before "less", and it will modify all the "comparative degree" in the last part of the sentence. In other words, it is the prerequisite of the words following it.

C.    Minivans carry as many as seven passengers, in comparison with most sport utility vehicles, and have a lower cost, they

I do not agree with D for that one subject modified by two  parenthesis  is seldom seen in GMAT. And if the subject has two  parenthesis, I think it is more preferred for "carrying" to be "which carry".

D 很多人喜欢语法分析，那就分析下。分析后，Minivans, carrying as many as seven passengers, compared with most sport utility vehicles，前半句连个动词都没有了，就直接有个逗号，后面cost。谓语呢？谓语都没有啊。

选A prep 上有，现确定选A， D是以前的争议选项
prep上说因为D compared with那修饰有歧义，可能修饰carrying那里
个人觉得gmac喜欢可以拿一个句子简单表达的（A直接上carry)不用同位语或其他的复杂结构比较好
