这道题but用的很好，并列了两个noun modifier (both are used to modify "500 solar masses")

example: Kate is charming but easy to get angry.
              Mercedes is expensive but endurable.

原文“hundreds of..., but thousands ...” but前面有逗号，是因为如果没有的话，the structure is too long to be readable.

这个题，A B 排除是因为less as,应该用less than吖
楼上回答的很好的..一般来说并列两个名词不能用逗号，但是这里不用会有歧义，要根据语义判断
