C 错在两点：
1 on earth 放的位置不对，on earth 放在前面改变了原意，放在前面的意思，感觉就在作比较 在地球上the rate is believed to be among the surest indications ，而在别的星球上又是另一回事了。。这一点难察觉到没事。
2 当你不知道是倒装好还是不倒装好的时候，重点是看后面的为划线部分的提示：as seen in the rings visible in the cross sections of their trunks。 后面是修饰trees 的，后面的their 需要指代，如果不倒装的话，trees 就离their 太远了，所以选E
