OG老题新困扰！！~大家帮忙看看！！！

错句子：A letter by Mark Twain, written in the same year as The Adventure of Huckleberry Finn were published, reveals that.......

我知道 这里的 were 应该改成 was， 但是OG除了这点还指出了另外一个错误：incorrectly substitute as for that to introduce the relative clause.
我的问题是 as 也是可以加句子的啊， 为什么要改成 that 呢？ 我觉得 改成when 岂不是更好？

我是这样理解的哈~
这里的主要问题应该是OG所说的to introduce the relative clause，因为这个用逗号隔开的句子是修饰a letter的,如果用了as的话，as后面的从句就是跟主句A letter by Mark Twain对应的，而不是跟written in the same year 对应了。而将as改为了that后，that引导的句子就是修饰year的定语从句，就不会存在这种结构上的问题了。
这种用法有点类似于从句中有and的时候，一定要注意and不能跟主句的主谓语对应了。因为这种连词一般都是从句子的结够上来理解的，首先是主句，再是从句，然后是从句里的从句。所以这题改成that就避免了这一问题啦。
不知道对不对哈~~看有没有NN来说说这个问题

（1）第一种情况：如果用as,后面的were published应该去掉。形成比较，A (in the same year ) as B.
（2）第二种：as引导定语从句的时候，前面需要是一个句子，不能是一个名词性的成分：
 比如：
We are facing the same problems as we did years ago.在这里as做"正如"讲，是可以的。

意思就是说 as 引导定语从句的时候的前面一定是个完整的句子喽？ 而 written in the same year 只是相当于名词成分修饰 a letter，所以用as 不对。那么用 when 是不是 可以呢？谢谢了~
