亲们，求教~为什么省略了情态动词would?

其他都懂，就是不知道C选项省略了原句中的情态动词would也算对吗？感觉被GMAT欺骗了。。
哪位亲解答呢~感激~

个人认为kill前面省略了助动词might
might escape .....and(might) kill并列

谢谢啦~不过可能是我有些钻牛角尖了，为何might能有替换would呢？不是说只有might和may能够相互替换么~

longman中对would的解释有:在动词过去式中代替will，表示推测或可能
will是用在认为未来有很大把握发生的事
所以我觉得这句里would表示的可能性比might要大，而且would有一定的把握
而这句的逻辑意思上对kill并没有特别大的把握
所以意思上might可能比would更准确些吧

个人观点，姑且听之，博采众长，免得我误人子弟啊，呵呵
