1 c的THEY指代不清楚，E也是啊，that代technique和plant哪一个呢？

1.C。E里面for doing sth.和that都是修饰techniques，比较C,E意思：E指"研究员使用"增强植物基因并能增强植物抗病性的技术"来增加蛋白质"。C指"使用增强植物基因的技术来增加蛋白质（进而能提高植物抗病性）"。
E表达的含义会让人感觉不够清晰，既然是用来增加抗病性的技术为什么能增加蛋白质呢？
C的表达就明确多了，抗病性只是增强基因的效用之一，而增加蛋白质是另一个效用。
相比之下C更好。

umm...关于代词they的指代，我是这么想的不知道大家的意见如何。作为这个句子读者，基本上90%都会认为disease- or pest-resistant的主语是plant，即便有10%认为有歧义，但是这点小纰漏还是没有上面提到的“意思含糊”的错误大。两权想害取其轻，就把E排除了。而且如果非说C里面的指代有问题，那么E里面的that能不能跳跃指代到techniques也是问题（正如Eileenl所说），两者相消，剩下E的那点不好。umm...我承认我的思路很杂。

2.C，prep08里面有这道题。"B. but后应补出that平行；whether or not累赘，直接用whether即可；仅仅是主语的比较，be动词is应该省略，省略is不会产生heart attack patients与the balloon procedure比较的歧义，如果两者要比较则必须后者也要补出介词for；need for doing不如need to do明确动作趋向。

3.A的意思是"这场兼并与开放公用事业市场的州一同来create a huge marketing network"。如果换用独立主格（with前加逗号）会好一点，但歧义仍在，用as引导的伴随状语就更没问题。所以应该改成as states open...

第二题，我个人觉得but that的话，意思有点问题，前面的谓语是agree, 前后两个句子翻译过来就是：同意....同意但是......逻辑上说不通

所以其实两个选项都有些问题

agree在that之前哦，所以应该是同意但是....反正语义上有些问题。相比较for, whether or not,还有省略is的问题，我觉得这个问题要大点：）

"But" is OK.  It simply indicates a transition/contrast in researcher's opinion.  It is akin to: The researchers agree that although the new treatment  is important, more work needs to be done.  The first part is a concession and the second part is a suggestion.  It is logically and grammatically sound.
