B.economic growth与the US比较对象不对等；its指代economic growth语义错误
C.economic growth与the US比较对象不对等；时间轴上先发生的动作用过去时，后发生的动作用过去完成时，had declined过去完成时态错误。
D.正确。
E.E选项大量使用名词，不如D选项使用grew/declined等动词直接、精确、简洁
对于D和E有一点疑问，记得有“多个动词比较时，助动词省略”这一条，如果按这一条来看，D就是错误的E才是正确的不是么？

我觉得E有个问题是its指的是Britain‘s，这样的话岂不是decline和economy在比较？

我觉得E选项前面的grew动词和后面的its decline不平行，and连接的话应该后面decline应该是动词形式的才行。

这里的did为什么要放到economy 之前吗？这种比较结构一般不都是than  sth. did的吗·？

尝试回答一下，虽然是很久以前的帖了，各位大牛指正。

D句型，than句型套着and句型，在and句型里主语是The economy of Britain，and连接的是动词grew和declined。在than句型里，比较的是主语+动词过去式，即The economy of Britain grew...and declined和did the economy of the United States。

E句型，有一个its decline，因此and连接的不是动词了，而是前后两个句子，所以主体是and句型，在第二个and句型里包含了than句型。而在第二个than句型里，比较的是its decline和the economy of the United States，这明显是不对的。


这是我得想法。
