The reason most of the information you hear seems to already be on the website is, unlike most schools, Wharton prides itself in being very open, very transparent, and in putting as much information as possible on the website as we can. So it's not that our presentation is not being candid; rather, it shows how much of a resource our website already is. You've already been through this, so I'm sure you agree!

As for "Why Wharton", that is a question we cannot answer for you. It is an intensely personal question: for some people, Wharton's big size means that they can meet more people, others think that it prevents them from knowing everyone in their class. Some think that Wharton's strength in quantitative subjects is a draw, others worry about their ability to thrive in such an environment. Some like the co-production model of Wharton and the myriad clubs one can join, others think that they would rather spend time other non club-activities. So we can't tell you 'why Wharton', but we can tell you 'What is Wharton', and from there, only you can decide if that fits the school that you would like to go to.

At most recruiting events, that's what happens: tonnes of interested students, not enough people to talk to. Sorry if you weren't able to talk to an alumni. I'll be in Shanghai the rest of the summer, so hopefully I'll be able to organise a few other events and get other fellow alumni to attend as well.

For those who are in Beijing, see you tonight!

Jason, hope you can arrange other student organized Wharton events in Shanghai.

Hope we can discuss face to face.

Thanks for your help.

Thank Jason, for your very sincere answer.

Hope you could manage some time to organize an event in Shanghai. And as you said, "what is Wharton" rather than " why wharton" is more likely what an alumni can tell, from the school's perspective.  "What is Wharton" is very important and intriguing, however,  I'm much more interested in some detailed personal stories, back then when the alumni was still a candidate, well, if it's not too personal for Q&A.

Thanks again for your effort. It is you and your kindness that makes Wharton even more attractive than it already is.

Students/Alumni like myself are there to tell you about our experiences at Wharton, that is true. However we shy away from telling detailed personal stories because we don't want people to go away with the impression that "you must be from this profile to enter Wharton", or "this must happen in order to go". Unlike us, you do not see the vast breadth of students and activities at Wharton, and so we try and avoid giving you the impression that our way was the only way, or even the best way. The fact is, everyone is unique, and our application story will most likely not apply to you. Following our footsteps can often only lead to a lack of success (it is akin to a company now following the strategy of another successful company 5 years ago... you wouldn't do that, so why would you do so for your own application?).

Therefore instead we try to tell you about what we think the school is, what our
experience there was like, and how we benefited from it, rather than
focus completely on ourselves. If I were you, this is what I would look out for at events. Find out more about the school, rather than the applicants themselves- that will be far more relevant to your application than anything else.
