Here is what we all have learnt (my sincere thanks to Chicago students, perspective Go-Chicago students and of 揟HE FRIEND?who studies there) so far厖厖..

Teaching: Chicago is god, all the teachers at Chicago are awesome and they are leaders in their field. They carry their individual brilliance to the classroom and teach exceedingly well. Unfortunately the same cannot be said Columbia. How do we know this? Well the Chicago students say so, not only them but also the perspective MBA students who took one class (that are hot on Chicago) and please do not forget 搕he friend?(in some cases the best friend) that everyone seems to have in these school to make a point. It boggles my mind that an MBA student or wanna-be students with one line 揟he teaching is better at Chicago?can undermines the quality of Columbia teachers. I would love to see the reaction of a Columbia prof. (who is a great teacher, has published 100抯 of papers, busted his ass for a PHD) when I tell him that the quality of his teaching sucks卋ut if he went over to Chicago he would cross over to greatness. Of course there is also the rankings by various journals and if we went by that then Univ. Of Rochester faculty is ranked #2 in the country, so is the teaching in Rochester (not knocking you guys) better than Chicago or Wharton? But in the END of course Chicago is better卋ecause some people on this forum have an amazing ability to compare the professors and their in-class teaching quality卬ot only them but also the journals?BTW a superstar in a field does not automatically mean a great teacher, more often than not the opposite is true?but of course I am wrong厀e are talking about Chicago Superstars.
Jobs: Does not matter what the numbers says, Chicago gets all the prestigious jobs and their alums are all over the place. Does not matter if top companies recruit at Columbia in hordes, all the Columbia students are recruited for their call centers. Where as Chicago, now that抯 the school if you want to reach the upper echelon. Cool.
Students: The Chicago students (no surprise) are tops again. They have magnificent personalities, they are true all rounders who play hard and work hard. Their personality is electrifying and social skills exemplary. Where as Columbia卼hey are wanna-be Chicago types who got rejected at Chicago, dream about Chicago and of course have no personality. Further, because they live in NYC they are not social and once the classes get over they all go their separate ways.
Location: Once again Chicago is in an amazing part of town, and do not forget the new building. The new building washes away any negativity that might be associated with the location. Some people on this board have said?living in Philly or living in Manhattan is the same (time-wise) for access to Wall Street. So why blame Chicago?? Of course once again Columbia sucks (these guys are unbelievable?they have nothing going for them).
I could go on and on. But I hope everyone gets the picture that Chicago is the school. If you do not want to be a call center rep (nothing wrong with that?.it is dignity of labor卋ut you do not have to spent 100K to get there) or have a one-dimensional personality卼hen go to Chicago卛f you cannot get in apply again and again until Chicago finally says 揧ou will never get in here?then go to Columbia where not only will you get in but also can dream about Chicago.
Prediction: In the next rankings, Chicago will either be the top ranked school or a close 2nd. I mean it. Can you imagine if these same students fill out the ranking surveys? Chicago will kill everyone.
Personally, I think Chicago is smarting because for the last 5-7 years Columbia has risen every fast and made a huge dent in Chicago抯 once formidable Wall-Street presence and Chicago cannot handle it. |
