写作练习delta4.1B&delta4.3B。

delta4.1B

The lecturer claims that sometimes, pruning creates more problems than doing good to the tree. He cites example of the tree in his garden to illustrate how bad pruning could become harmful and dangerous if people misconduct it.

In addition, the professor summarizes five major problems of bad pruning.

In the first place, topping can not keep the tree small. Conversely, the tree will soon grow to regain its previous height. This point is also mentioned in the reading material.

In the second place, pruning could cause infection to the tree since virus may easily attack the tree through the wound.

In the third place, over-cut of leaves will lead to starvation of the tree, because leaves are the main source of food.

In the forth place, improper pruning is the reason why trees breaks off so easily during the storm or snowy season.

Finally, pruning deprives the tree its original appearance but an ugly shape instead.

In conclusion, people with no professional knowledge can get undesirable result through pruning and creates more problems than it solves.

delta4.3B

In the first place, the speaker argues that the doctrine held by Joseph Gall is proven not a real science. She claims that the size and shape of an individual’s skull have no relationship with the intelligence the man has. To illustrate Gall’s failure, she sites the example of a man with small brain who performs very intelligent. So this contradicts the points given in the reading material that size and shape of skull decide the capability of the brain.

However, she partially agrees with the finding of Gall, according to the passage, that different parts of the brain do have different function. The evidences are shown in the research that partial injury may cause disability of speaking, or reading, or naming things, etc.

In addition, the point that different mental powers indeed depend on “organs” of the mind is also upheld by the speaker. She says that it is proven to be true that human have different metal abilities, say speaking, memorizing, language, music, and other 200 multi-forms of intelligence.
