请教OG17 697中的指代问题

我清楚这道题的一个考察点是research作为动词，是可及物的，然后我又看了gmatclub的讨论之后，开始对其中he的指代开始错乱


A professor at the university has taken a sabbatical to research on James Baldwin's books that Baldwin wrote in France while he was living there.

A) on James Baldwin's books that Baldwin wrote in France while he was living there（这里是指B,就近指代)
B) about the books James Baldwin wrote in France（这里如果把about去掉是不是就对了？？）
C) into James Baldwin's books written while in France（这里的he可以指JB嘛？，能跳指pro？）
D) on the books of James Baldwin, written while he lived in France（这里用written修饰book所以he指代没问题，把on去掉就正确了？？）
E) the books James Baldwin wrote while he lived in France（这里我看gmatclub挺多人就说这里he指代是模糊的，难道he不是就近指代的jb??)

请各位大神指教??

首先正确选项的指代没有问题，如果这样都模糊那干脆就不要用代词了吧。

... What thing/person/idea the pronoun want to stand for?
... Is there a NOUN for that thing/person/idea?
... Do the pronoun and noun match (in terms of singular/plural)?
If the answers to the last two questions are "yes" and "yes", then the pronoun is fine.
That's all.
As you can see here, adding unnecessary complexity will just make easy decisions hard, and will often lead to incorrect conclusions.

其次不要尝试改写错误选项，如果这样是不是就对了这种问题对SC没有实质的帮助，重点在于选出正确的选项。

最后在国外论坛上搜解释是很好的习惯，但请focus在instrutor的解释上，其他人的看法很多时候都不一定正确，看多了肯定会混乱。建议看Manhattan上instutor或者Bestthegmat上Mitch的解释。
