近日在重新复习曼哈顿语法比较这一章的时候,遇到了一些问题:
1.在看PREP08版笔记的时候,有这样一个归纳:主句谓语动词短语使用“助动词(如have, has, had ,will)或情态动词(can,could,may,should)+verb"形式时,比较从句往往省略verb,保留助动词或情态动词。
我想知道,要是前后比较的时态本身不一样,比如前面是过去时,后面的是将来时,那么后者的助动词是否完全不能省略?
2.曼哈顿语法里有这样一个正确的例句:
I will have higher bills THAN last year.
后来联想到OG 的第42题:
To develop more accurate population forecasts,demographers have to know a great deal more than now about the social and economic determinants of fertility.
A. have to know agreat deal more than now about the social and economic B. have to know agreat deal more than they do now about the social and economical C. would have toknow a great deal more than they do now about the social and economical D. would have toknow a great deal more than they do now about the social and economic E. would have toknow a great deal more than now about the social and economical
正确答案是D,那么把这句话拿出来和manhattan的那句话相比,两者前后时态都是不一致的,为什么曼哈顿的这句话能省去动词而这句话不能直接在后面加now省略动词?如果两者时态不一致,不是需要补出助动词吗?为什么曼哈顿的这句可以省略?
