求助~~do it 和 do so 的用法区别~~~~~

B so not at Plymouth but  
C not at Plymouth but instead
D not at Plymouth but did so

这道题答案是B，我选A
因为我认为这里的 did 指代前面的establish,那么这里的it 可以明确表明是 a permanent colony了啊？
为什么要用do so呢？do so 不是模糊的么？

楼主思考有偏差的地方是：did是不能表示指代的，在这里做句子的谓语动词。
it如你所说，就近指代permanent colony，但是只能指代名词。而so指代整个动作，即establish a permanent colony...不知道这样说楼主懂了没~
