比较小问题

Employment costs rose 2.8 percent in the 12 months that ended in September, slightly less than they did in the year that ended in the previous quarter。
这道题是不是就是对状语的比较呢
去掉they did 是不是也可以呢？

还原句子就是：costs rose in xxx, less than they did in yyy.

they did = costs rose，和前面是一样的， ...

they did = costs rose，和前面是一样的，所以去掉没问题：costs rose in xxx, less than in yyy.
