你的主要疑惑在于既然原文中它的位置是这样，那么说明至少这样做并不错----这里有一个误区。
因为原文中是分词passing,所以它本身可以有状语，这里介词短语是它的状语，而不是定语，这也是为什么正确选项中用了passage以后介词短语的位置需要变化的原因，因为只有这样才能保留原文的意思，而不是保留原文的形式。

另外they指代those也是错误的
