再来，考虑timeframe
had been thought（这里应该是指科学家或者研究人员）

那合乎逻辑的应该是complex life forms 先emerged （原选项是simple past），这个现象出现了之后才可以开始被研究和被thought吧（所以这里用过去完成时不合理）
