英国本科精算毕业申美国商学院求定位

LZ是London Cass Business School 精算本科最后一年,成绩马马虎虎 1st class( GPA可能是3.7-3.8), 系里成绩大概是top 10-15 out of 85.其实去年就发现Actuarial Sci这门课的诸多不好了,但上了贼船只能硬着读完,所以想到master一定换个方向,(没有学术恒心所以现阶段不考虑PHD)..只想去US去读下. 感觉最靠谱的相关专业就是 Statistics,我这门成绩也还挺好. GRE 自信不会有问题. Recommendation letter也有熟悉的老师和本地人来支持,料定不是问题....LZ想去大城市, NYC是首选的.不知 Columbia有木有希望?   成绩还能有所提高.前10可以争取...另外有别的别的专业可以考虑吗? 实话讲Cass这个精算课程设置还蛮broadly invloved,Stats+~Maths+Finance+Insurance+Economics 这五个方向都在涉及,但除了Stats和Insurance 学的都不深(可LZ不想再碰mortality这个咒人什么时候死的命题了)一直都觉得这会是很大的劣势..

It is all what you make out of it. If you work hard and do what you are supposed to do, you are gonna be just fine.

Thank you for your advice. But i will never stick to actuarial science again. I've gone though a series of posts regarding value of programme of stats at Columbia, is that too bad to be meaningless ?

You targeting Ivy Leaguers? Columbia has a Master's in Actuarial Science. Think Penn has one too... On the west coast, UCLA has a pretty good stats program. Not sure about others...

In addition, any related subjects that link actuarial science strongly can I consider ? I'm not exactly keen on Financial engineer btw and frankly competition for applying it is too aggressive.Maths should also be excluded( and it's hard to apply as well)

It's known as a fact that some of Columbia's masters (including stats) are among the easiest to get in compared to other Ivy League schools. Not sure about the quality of the program but they definitely have a lower threshold. But again, it is Columbia so worth a shot.

可以申经济学，NYU啥的
