代词指代问题，我一直都没有搞懂。

本题选D。AB修饰skills所以错。  我的问题是C中，they通过逻辑明显指的是people，所以意思不是指skills. 而且后面their memory circuits也告诉我们这里的they就是指代人呀！所以C错在哪了呢？？？？    跪求牛人指点。  我代词这里不行呀。。。。。。。。。

1. “they按照曼哈顿上的解释应该是指代主句主语，即people's newly acquired skills，所以不对。”
不太清楚你看的是哪个曼哈顿的帖子，但这个理解似乎不太正确。没有代词一定指代主语的说法，还是要看句子结构，这里前后两句句子并不构成平行结构，没有任何其他线索指示they必须指代后句的主语。所以they既不是铁定指代people，也不是铁定指代skills。
2. 按照语义来判断，其实是可以排除they指代skills的，因为skills是不可能sleep，只有people可以。
3. 错误在哪里？
这里they本意要指代people；但不幸的是，people在后句中的成分是个形容词，修饰skills，它不单独构成一个名词成分。代词they不能指代这样的成分（可能their可以，我不确定）。在曼哈顿SC 5.0中关于代词这一章有大量篇幅解释这一问题。

关于E项ron的解释是：Ron："adequate" + "they need" = redundant. this is the only thing unequivocally wrong in choice (e).
为啥它俩重复想了好久，感觉句意的理解上也不是很有力地回答了我的疑惑。后面在牛津字典上找到了adequate的英文解释是【enough in quantity, or good enough in quality, for a particular purpose or need】，所以它本身已经有了need的意思，就不需要they need了。

特贴出来，如果有人搜到这道题的话希望能有所帮助~

E选项里面没有skill啊…不懂是不是原楼忘记打还是本来题目里面就没有。如果原本题目里面就没有的话那应该可以直接删除E了。
如果原来题目里有的话，我觉得是不是the amount of 错了啊。题目只是想表达需要大量睡眠，但是加了the就变成指代特定睡眠了。

好巧 刚好我也在看这一题
如你所说, 我第一眼看到 also 和 even 也停顿了一下, 但是“没有任何思绪” ---其实是符合逻辑的, 因为also 和 even 意思差别其实很小很小, 硬要说有的话 可能even 会多一点点主观的感情在里面. 而且这题also 和even 明显是用来迷惑咱们的

不选C 的原因主要有几点
1. 在C 里面 they 毫无悬念的指代people （包括后面的thier） 但是 整个选项里面都没有出现过people 这个单词，people‘s 是作adj, 代词不可以指代adj
2. people's new skills 不符合逻辑  
according to Ron,

perhaps, but you can also dismiss C because it doesn't make sense. if you refer to "people's newly acquired skills", then you're implying that the people have already acquired those skills.

e.g.,
I can't afford clothes.
(= clothes i don't already have)

i can't afford my clothes.
(= the ones i already have... e.g., they're expensive designer clothes, and now my credit card bill is killing me)

但是其实第二个点, 因为中文和英文表达的关系 第一眼很难想通。但是至少第一个点 是一个是靠谱的split 的方法

然后其次 amount 和 amounts   甚至延伸到number 和 numbers 的用法
不要想的太复杂，也不要死记硬背 idioms  
如果你想说一个 amount 就是 amount  2个或者多个 就是amounts  仅此而已

大家都常说the number of XXX  一定不能用numbers 的核心逻辑也是 我们讨论的就是一个 number 这个数字, 如果有2个number的话 the numbers of 也是可以得。
