as除了做介词和连词，还能做什么词？

PREP笔记中写到
as,than可以做比较从句的主语，例：

In one of the bloodiest battles of the Civil War,fought at Sharpsburg, Maryland, on September 17, 1862, four times as manyAmericans were killed as would laterbe killed on the beaches of Normandy during D-Day.
As指代了americans。
这里as是什么词性？连词还是代词？这句话难道不是省略吗？

没人回答，我自己解答吧，免得让题目空着，as在这里做连词，因为主语都是americans所以在后面省略了，PREP语法笔记上这么写有问题啊~~
