关于parallelism很困惑的点。

问题一：平行结构中，什么时候需要重复介词，什么时候不需要？？？

Many teachers choose to SEEK employment in the suburbs rather than FACE low salaries in the city.  (这里face 前没有重复介词to)   Manhattan p61 3题

我觉得这里的face前需要介词to，但是manhattan上面说不需要介词to了。我对此很困惑，因此总结了好多句子，发现大部分的情况都会重复介词的。但为什么偏偏这里却不需要呢？

需要重复介词的例子：

She argues that the agency act WITH reckless abandon AND WITH disregard to huma life and property. ( 这里重复了介词with)

Although we were sitting in the bleachers, the baseball game was as exciting TO us as TO the people sitting behind home plate. (这里重复了介词to)  Manhattan p61 2题

The band chosen for the annual spring concert appealed TO both the student body and TO the administration.   （这里重复了介词to) Manhattan P61  11题

问题二：

Dr.Crock’s claims HAVE BEEN not corroborated by other scientists or published but HAVE nonetheless garnered a great deal of attention from the public.  --------mht p62 15题

(我查了词典，发现publish 应该是这么用的：sth is published by sb,所以这里是have been published,但是这里为什么又不重复have been 呢？？我觉得应该是HAVE BEEN not corroborated by other scientists or HAVE BEEN published)

问题三：为什么下面这句话是错的？

The consultant is looking for a café where there are comfortable chairs and that provides free internet access.

Manhattan 说这句话是错的。应该换成The consultant is looking for a café THAT has comfortable chairs and THAT  provides free internet access

我觉得where there are comfortable chairs   和 that provides free internet access 都是从句，从句和从句并列，应该是可以的呀。但是为什么manhattan说这样的并列是错的呢？

在open的平行结构里面，to可添加可不添加，都是正确的

确认了一下 这个句子的问题出在there be没有has来得精炼明确 there be只表示存在，has包含了咖啡厅和桌椅的关系，而且还简洁，并且还that完全perfectly parallel，所以其实是比较原则选出来的。如果考场上最好的答案是这个原句，咱么也可以选（不过一般there be总是错）

谢谢你的解答！但最后一点 I beg to differ. 引mht原句：The signal words do not have to be the same word. For example: Right: There are many people WHO speak English BUT WHOSE parents do not. 两个并列的从句并不要求共同的先行词在两个句子中做同样的成分

the band chosen for the annual sprig concert appealed to the student body as well as to the administration.

请问此处如何理解第二个to要不要添加呢？

我觉得这里的face前需要介词to，但是manhattan上面说不需要介词to了。我对此很困惑，因此总结了好多句子，发现大部分的情况都会重复介词的。但为什么偏偏这里却不需要呢？
这句话的core sentence structure是Teachers choose to X rather than Y. parallelism marker是rather than, rather than是一个open parallelism, 注意到这点很重要.
在open parallelism中，如果action verb是be+verb form, gerund, or can/should/must/...+verb form, 那么句子是可以把action verb分开的。
所以你看到的就是choose to seek rather than face.

2/需要重复介词的例子：
She argues that the agency act WITH reckless abandon AND WITH disregard to human life and property. ( 这里重复了介词with)
这句是书中例句，此处Y element以with开头是为了eliminate ambiguity. 容易误解例句为She argues that agency act with reckless abandon and she argues disregard...
你可以看书中更详细的解释。

这句是考察as...as...
第一个as可作副词，其后通常接形容词或副词(用原级)，第二个as可作介词(后接名词或代词)或连词(后接从句)。
方便理解的话，你把第一个as等同于the same,句子就变成了
game was the same exciting to us as to the people
这样你会发现，无论是想省略to,变成 game was the same exciting to us as the people
还是想再加上一个exciting变成 the game was the same exciting to us as excting to the people都非常奇怪了

4/ The band chosen for the annual spring concert appealed TO both the student body and TO the administration.   （这里重复了介词to) Manhattan P61  11题
可能我们书的版本不一样，我看的这版答案已经是没有第二个to的了，如果你写的答案没有看错的话，那你那版应该是错了。

The GMAT allows verb forms like to do sth, have been, be doing sth, will/can/must... do sth to be separated by parallelism elements.
所以，claims have been 1/ neither corroborated 2/nor published (顺带说一句你写的句子和书中不一样再核对一下）

问题三：为什么下面这句话是错的？

The consultant is looking for a café where there are comfortable chairs and that provides free internet access.

Manhattan 说这句话是错的。应该换成The consultant is looking for a café THAT has comfortable chairs and THAT  provides free internet access

我觉得where there are comfortable chairs   和 that provides free internet access 都是从句，从句和从句并列，应该是可以的呀。但是为什么manhattan说这样的并列是错的呢？


你看看cafe在where there are comfortable chairs和在that provides free internet access中的作用一样吗？在前一个从句中担当地点状语，在第二个从句中担当主语。怎么能算是structually similar??

看了LZ这么多的问题，我不知道如何一一去回答，因为语言不是数学，每个题目都有公式可套。语言是个灵活的东西，只要符合逻辑，符合习惯，都可以灵活的运用，不需要因为一点点的不一样而去纠结，去怀疑是不是错了。我们平时说话，写东西都是这样。有个大致的范围，有个基本的语言法则，我们都能正确的运用。不会有人为了你少写了个介词或者多加了助词而和你纠结不休，因为你写的东西大家都看的明白。英语也是一样，因为它就是语言。

另外说说GMAT。虽然它的语法比较严格，规矩也多，但它不会去钻牛角尖，但如果违反了语法法则造成了错误理解，那就是肯定是要被视为不对了。
