Agree or disagree: to solve the problem of present and future, it is necessary to understand the past.
There has been a heated discussion as to whether it is necessary for people to review the past when faced with problems at present and in the future. Some supporters suggest that the past could equip us with easy access to solutions. However, others remain unconvinced of its merits, retorting that some unintended backlash might occur as the experience from history could not work any more nowadays. When I take a moment to reflect this issue, I am still a big voter for the opinion that we have every reason to understand the past in order to solve the puzzles of present and future.
To begin with, reviewing the past can let us evade some stupid mistakes. Since people have paid tremendous price for mistakes in the past, looking back at the history is bound to avoid the same tragedy repeating in the future. An illustrating example is the World War 2. Thousands of millions people suffered the unprecedented human catastrophe, which thoroughly changed the face of the world. For instance, the radiation of the atomic bombs thrown on the Japanese land even brings hazard to people's health right now. Therefore, through this painful lesson, people place a high value on the importance of peace and cherish the cooperation among countries now. As a result reviewing the past can prevent the mistakes from repeating in the future.
What is more, understanding the past is beneficial for us to reach the bank of new findings. There is no denying that all the wisdom and experiences are concealed in the flow of the history, those knowledges could indeed give people some insights to solve problems. Let me raise a tangible example to break down this abstract statement. Albert Einstein proposed the theory of relativity on the foundation of Mathematics and Maxwell's equation. Because of those elite's theories in the past, Einstein could make the great contribution nowadays. And the field of science is progressed accordingly. Thus understanding the past can trigger the emergence new discoveries.
Admittedly, we could easily become disoriented in the huge sea of information when we look back at the history. In addition, some useful experiences at that time may not functional at present and in the future. Reviewing the past, however, is just a process that discarding the old-fashioned things and preserving the rests. If we split carefully, the advantages will far more outweigh the disadvantages.
To sum up, based on what have already been mentioned above, I am quite favorable in terms of understanding the past. Although some shortcomings might be taken into consideration, we should not ignore the colossal fruits that reviewing the past offers.
