MBA申请路上挫折重重。。最后一击-CMU Tepper，有在校或Alumni可以解疑吗？谢谢！

总结前面top20全军覆没的经验，在最后一次冲击top20之前，真的想深入了解一些这个Program。

先来背景：
美籍华人，18岁从中国移民美国，现30岁，美国国籍。男.
普通美本，Computer Science, GPA 2.92. Calculus II - A (学校好像会问）

Gmat: 740 Q50, V39, AWA5.5, IR 5. (好像挺高，但是McCombs 连看也不看一眼。)

工作：15人小公司的general manager。Retail 行业，有五家分店。任内把公司从一家店子扩充到五家，在Product and services 方面也做了挺大的改变，也写了一些程序来管理inventory， customer, purchase order  之类。在这公司做了四年半。很多东西都是自己东摸西摸学习尝试的，没有什么hard skill， 始终不是business 本科毕业。。。

目标：
短期-从小公司转到大公司，成为一个Product Manager 或retail merchandise manager (请大家给给意见） 。 如果要说具体的公司职位，我想做Amazon 的Product Manager 或他们的 retail leadership rotational program.

长期-multinational corporation 在中国 Division 的 retail general manager. 想利用自己的multi-cultural background.

Why Tepper:
这就是想请大家帮忙的地方。我先说说我所认知的，希望前辈补充和指出错误：
1。我比较有兴趣e-commerce，因为自己有computer science背景。tepper的ＩＴ背景是数一数二的。这可以算是个比较好的why school原因吗？
2。 tepper的mini semester. 虽然很intense，但是给学生机会学到更多更广的hard skill. 这正是我最需要的。而且我的long term goal 是general manager,更加需要广度的知识。
3。 就业情况17.58%是general management， 相对算是比较高吧？我也是想在general management方面发展。

请各位前辈多多帮忙！！！ 如果看见任何不合理的，或者有什么补充，请多多指教！特别是career goal 和 why school。 感觉前面的全军覆没和这两点很有关系。。。

关于career goal, 其实我最想就是能从现在这个小公司转到一些大企业，希望以后的发展多一些。除了product manager之外，大家还有什么建议吗？感觉我的工作背景没什么hard skill,都是东做西做的。也想转 MIS 或 IT，但是好像没有相关的pre-mba经验, 学校会觉得不合理，以后找工作也难。

越写越乱了。。。反正希望大家多多指教，希望最终能拿下一个top 20.

如果我的short term goal 改为 supply chain specialist 又如何? 也就是走 CMU 的 Operation management concentration.

话说我其中一个在公司的贡献就是把 merchandising department 和 purchasing routine 改革了, 提高的product and service variety, and make them better meeting the customer's demand. 这个例子会写在essay里.  这也算是supply chain的一部分吧, whole seller -> retailer -> customers.

在CMU 的employment report里看见好几个公司都有在cmu招 supply chain specialist. 这样一来会比较合理吗?也可以强调cmu的operatoin management trek 可以帮我达到目标.

如果这个short term goal 还合理,那 long term goal就应该是 VP of supply chain? 还是太夸张了?写个 senior merchandising manager 算了?

Hey there! And thanks for dropping us a line here.
Sorry to hear that you haven't been as successful as you had hoped in your applications. Before I start answering your comments about Tepper though, let me say that since you have applied to many other schools without success, before you go ahead and apply anywhere, you might be better off, stopping and thinking about your strategy and your applications, so see if there is something you can change for the better. There's no point in continuing ahead with a strategy that has not thus far been successful! So I would do that first.

Next, Tepper does seem to be a good choice for you given your criteria. I don't think that  you should be having any difficulties because of lack of "pre-MBA" stuff, although you might want to complement your finance/math knowledge before you attend.

I think, though, like I wrote above, that your first step should be to maybe have someone look at your  unsuccessful applications, and figure out what went wrong, and THEN apply to other alternatives.

看LZ纠结的，不忍心也来插上一句

与其纠结于用各种position&title来描述你的career goal，不如down to the ground说说具体想要achieve什么，类似企业宣扬vision的那种表达方法，而不是扔position&title出来

然后针对你目前的个人情况和你想要实现的职业目标，中间是不是有个gap，这个gap具体是什么？一二三点列出来。你已经提到有hard skills了，怎么发现这个gap的可以讲个故事吧，然后这个gap的缩小和消灭能如何帮助你实现目标也可以聊聊吧

针对这个gap，CMU能提供什么，一二三点写出来，be specific

提一个很tactical的思路，其实LZ的why mba有个比较顺理成章的版本，就是目前作为小公司的GM碰到了发展上的瓶颈具体有哪些，然后想通过mba的学习能有一个具体的方法论和知识储备，回到之前的公司里帮助企业更好的发展

当然，这只有利于帮LZ编个听起来make sense的故事卖给adcom而已，别无他用。。。

你在美国，当然最好的方式就是Campus visit。

我除了webinar和online info session 之外， 也试图联系过校友（有个私人关系，但是很久之前毕业的），但是人家还没理我。

恩，我说的是CMU。 McCombs的面试官本身我就是通过private network reach到的。 所以不存在这个问题。但是McCombs是海面，面试只占1/4吧。 料想面试之后被拒的比例还是很高的。 我只能prepare for the worst

一家四口,在学校地点上还是有限制的.能去的都apply了,只剩下CMU...

再问一个,虽然cmu在supply chain / operation management不算很强,但也会招人吧... 会不会反而竞争小了?

这个 supply chain / operation management 还算合理吧?
