我觉得A选项的when做时间状语从句修饰了整个句子，而before
they rot修饰了process，两者割裂了，失去了因果关系。

E 选项同在before 后warmer weather returns and
rots the fruit，天气热了水果烂了，表达了这一种因果，所以更合理。
