it按照语法应指an expanding cloud, 但逻辑上应指代storm

The scientists monitored a cloud ejected from the Sun. The cloud triggered a large storm, whose consequence were the brightening of the Northern Lights and the possible knocking out of a satellite. The latter two events are in a conjunction, so they should be represented by similar verb forms.

D选项这里好像还有一个问题，个人拙见：
a large storm, triggered by ...., brightened and knocked.....
这的brightened和knocked 动作发出者是a large storm.
应该也错误了

对句子整个结构分析，句子成分分析的把握  
更有说服力

说的对，其实到最后SC CR RC上升到境界和高度的时候都是考语义。

but i do not understand why "it" in B is ambigous?
Doesn't it refer to the subject of the main clause "cloud"?

个人感觉光看代词出现的前后，有点牵强
对句子整个结构分析，句子成分分析的把握  
更有说服力

我也是冲着为什么不选DE来找到这题的讨论的

it指代不清的问题是我第一遍刷OG时基本屡战屡败的坑
在讲求clear and exact原则的GMAT，两个问题一定要高度敏感：
代词指代是否有不清晰的嫌疑+句法结构是否平衡达意

麻烦大家能不能解释一下可以由DE的主句主语是storm，而因为如果代词优先于主句出现则优先指代主句主语所以its应该指代cloud所以DE不对从而来排除DE呢？谢谢～～～

这个应该是伴随状语吧，后面的动作伴随主句的动作发生而发生

，ving可表示伴随动作，伴随结果或者伴随状态~

从三个动词trigger, brighten, knock,之间的关系不看看出，后两者应该是trigger的间接后果，应该用svo, ving的形式，且后两者平行。
AD把brighten改成了名词修饰语改变含义，且A中brighten和knock不平行
B把brighten和trigger平行起来改变含义
E中brighten和knock不平行，改变含义。
DE 丢失信息，把ejected from the sun这个修饰语丢了，改变含义。
