答案选E, 但是我就不明白为什么要用HAVE  ROCESSED, 这句话主干其实就是THE ONLY WAY IS "TO HAVE IT....", 那么这个HAVE的发起者是谁呢，我很迷惑，请好心人解释下，谢谢。

而OG对E的解释中，The use of before rather than when 这里的when是指原句，也就是A选项里的when warmer weather returns.
所以E选项想说，before they rot when warmer weather returns里面，没有很好的表达出因果关系，因为when是同时的意思。反而是 before ... weather returns and rots the fruit里面，通过主谓宾的形式，以A rot B，表示A使B腐烂，这里的因果关系是通过rot这个动词体现出来的。

对e选项有个疑问：

OG的解释是：the use of “before” rather than “when” also clearly establishes the cause-and-effect relationship between weather and rotting.
连接weather和rotting的是and不是before。OG是不是想说and代替when？
可是and表示并列，怎么能表达因果关系呢？

补充下我的理解，首先citrus在GMAT考试中被认为是单数的，所以可以排除其他选项。其次，我觉得这道题的另一个考点是系动词前后要平行，所以要在AE中选，结合citrus的单复数问题，综合选择E选项。

补充一点: rot 在表示某个物质主动腐烂时是不及物动词， 所以此处的A应该表达为they rot way when...; 而rot在表达‘使得腐烂’时是及物动词，所以A rot B (B是腐烂的物体) 是正确的结构。

我觉得这道题A/E的区别应该是隐藏在before后的部分.. Citrus既然单复同型，用It 和 They应该都可以
