请教大家，是不是在任何情况下，后面比较级补上来的都是助动词或be动词，像they do, they did, they were，等等。比如这题D选项，不能是 "would have to know a great deal more than they would now about the........ "?

是的，补上来的都是helping verb,即助动词 be,have,do. 但只有会有歧义时才补上助动词，否则略去保持简洁最好。

more than这个跟其他用平行后面省略遵守的规则都是一样的，后面的一长串不管是they do，they did，they are，都是为了简洁表达前面的相同的比较。但是最最重要的是你这样一简洁了这两个比较的东西还一样了不？

在这个题目里，比较的应该是know后面的object，那more than后面补全了就是they know now about。。。，为了简洁，就把know替换成do，如果用would就没有意思了~
