关于 walk me through your resume

一直有个疑问，请NN们解答。
因为我是想通过读商学院改变职业，所以我过去的职业和我未来想做的没有太多交集。但是总觉得回答walk me through your resume这个问题时要表现出自己对于职业发展是很早就有规划的，但同时又觉得回答时要突出自己之前工作的accomplishments。由于时间有限，我觉得自己很难在两三分钟把“职业轨迹”和“已取得的成就”两方面都做很好的阐述，肯定要有所取舍。所以想听听NN们的建议，到底应该更强调“职业轨迹”还是更强调“已取得的成就”呢？

Hey there—YES we always have tips of course.  Shoot us an email and we can send to you (free of course) the powerpoint for the webinar that we just did, helping folks with their interview preparation.  In general though, you wanna keep your answer to 3 minutes or so, cover education at first, and then frame a nice, simple answer that walks your interviewer through your PLAN.  Don’t just talk about what they can already see on paper—that would be a waste of time! Instead, talk about WHY.  Talk about the space IN BETWEEN resume entries—why you took the job you did.  Why you left.  Why you took the next one.  That is what resumes cannot cover—the answer to the question WHY.  If you cover that aspect, the WHY—or the space in between the resume entries—you will be off to a good start.  Hope this helps!

Hello my friend.  The answer is 3 minutes maximum.  J  If they have questions, let them ask you after you’ve done!  But 5 minutes is too long, and 2 minutes is too short.  Stay on the short side—but if an ENTIRE Interview is going to be 25-30 minutes long, you don’t wanna spend 1/3 of the time on ONE answer.  If you put your interviewer to sleep during your first question, you may never bounce back from it dude!  Hope this helps…

Hey there, happy to offer up some guidance here.  First of all, we NEVER recommend that clients describe career changes in MBA apps—this is true in the essays, AND in person in interviews.  Your best bet will be to find some kind of clear storyline (as you suggest) that ties your past to your future.  The way to bridge the gap between “career path” and “accomplishments” is to show how your accomplishments have led you to (along) your career path.  So if you solved a problem or achieved a goal, just add a sentence or two explaining how this helped you to make some smart decisions about your future.  Hope this helps—feel free to reach out to us personally for more input here!  It is hard without any specific info…

Hey there—most likely, you will wanna get through the education piece pretty quickly.  After all, this isn’t “Academics” school, it is BUSINESS school.  So focus on business.  And in 2-3 minutes maximum, you wont have much more than 30 seconds or so, Id expect.  Only cover activities if you have a way to discuss them that is relevant to your career, and to BUSINESS…
