Due to the decline demand of the mining technology, all the related corporations are suffering form decline of profit and sales this year, including Blastcom Corporation. Blastcom Corporation is considering adopting one growth strategy: to shift some of the researchers from mining technology to the renewable energy technology, the demand for the renewable energy such as solar energy. Some of the prominent companies which market the renewable energy are successful in recent years. Therefore, it is guaranteed that company Blastcom will also be successful in the future by providing renewable energy

The conclusion endorsed in this argument is that company Blastcom will be successful in the future by providing renewable energy. Several reasons are offered in support of this argument. First of all, the author points out that the demand of the mining technology declined, so it is necessary to shift some of the researchers to the renewable energy technology. In addition, the author reasons that some of the prominent companies which market the renewable energy are successful in recent years. At first glance, the author’s argument appears to be somewhat convincing, but further reflection reveals the author’s recommendation is problematic for several reasons.

Fist of all, the author assumes that the Blastcom Corporation is analogous to the companies which market the renewable energy. However, their discrepancy outweighs their similarities. The author actually makes a false analogy. For example, the companies which market the renewable energy are successful because of its modern facilities or broaden network. These are all affect the success of the companies but virtually absent in the Blastcom corporation. Without taking into account such discrepancy, the assumption is groundless. The author has to provide that the Blastcon corporation resembles the renewable energy companies in all aspects.

Additionally, the author assumes that all the conditions of the market of renewable energy will remain unchanged as they were in the future. However, the future is uncertain. The argument commits a fallacy of “all things are equal”. For example, the demanding of the renewable energy will decline in the future if another energy resource be found. Or some policies that affect the renewable energy will be published in the few years. Failure to consider such possibility may lead to an ungrounded conclusion. The author has to rule out other possibility that may lead the conclusion.

To conclude, this argument is not persuasive as it stands. Accordingly, it is imprudent for the author to claim that the company Blastcom will be successful in the future by providing renewable energy. To make this argument logically acceptable, the author would have to show that Blastcon corporation resembles the renewable energy companies in all aspects. In addition, to solidify the conclusion, the author should provide concrete evidence that the conditions will not be changed in the few years. Only with more convincing evidence could this argument become more than just an emotional appeal.(388)
