表示过去的过去不是该用过去完成时吗？
但为何在 until+过去的时间点（到过去某个时间点为止）的句型中却不用呢？
这是摘自GWD的几个正确语法句子，
Until the passage of the Piracy and Counterfeiting Amendments Act in 1982, a first-time charge of copyright infringement was merely a misdemeanor charge.
后半句描述的是1982年以前的情况，为何不用had been a misdemeanor呢？
同理：
1. until about 25 years ago miners did not realize that bacteria take an active part in the process.  
2. Barbara Jordan did not become a nationally recognized figure until 1974.
我觉得这几个句子都用had done 才好呀，

题目中的the passage of the Piracy and Counterfeiting Amendments Act in 1982只是表示某个过去的时间点，并没有体现出“过去的过去”这一层涵义，用不上过去完成时。

同意楼上，楼主看一下Manhattan的sc分册关于tense的这一章讲过去完成时的这一部分，就会更明晰的。

完全和你一般用法相反
在那个正确的例句里面“过去的过去”那个动作用的是一般过去式，“过去的”那个动作用的是过去完成时

总之，过去完成时实在是太复杂了
我已经完全晕菜了。
