我是觉得method无所指代， 如果说指代的是盾牌的话，那么盾牌并不是一种方法。所以 A,B, 错误
E如果没有前面的逗号的话，是对的

C的用法是最好的，我是这样做的

只是prefer同位语，不是一定选它。这题用method做items的同位语不符合逻辑~
另外，这题protecting的用法，我摘了一下prep08笔记里的一段，LZ参考一下~
V-ing，如果前面是主系表结构，由于系动词是一个状态不存在“被伴随”，但是V-ing结构依然修饰的是整个主系表结构，所以后面的V-ing结构也可以被解读为修饰前面的名词成分—主语（如果宾语是名词，也一同修饰，因为主系表结构中主语和宾语所指是同一事物）。
