这道题正确答案是C，但是我觉得D更加能体现出来在过去的‘当时’的那种情况啊，而且as后面的那个句子C和D虽然看着不同，但实际上一样吧？？？
求解释，为啥选C不选D

我觉得C很perfect的~~你看：

worked steadily and efficiently through the night, but  as they sipped their coffee the next morning

这里对比结构很清楚，as也表示了当什么的时候。

AS有很多种用法，并不一定是加ing形式才是对的，这里不管是过去进行时还是过去式表达的意思都是合理的，所以没有问题

但是D选项后半句改变了句子的重心，强调 he seemed ， she noticed则变成了插入语

相比之下C就更好了。
