不知名公司的人如何进入TOP MBA?

本人一直在国内不知名的公司工作,从事过战略咨询以及股权投资工作，毕业5年。目前的工资在60万左右。今年申请一所北美TOP 5的MBA学校被拒绝了，非常伤心。虽然我所从事的公司都不知名，但是我却做出了一些成就，付出的努力比那些在大公司里面的人要多得多，用泪水与汗水造就了今天。我想问问各位，是不是小公司的人就进不了TOP MBA吗？我的essay也请很多top MBA的朋友看过,都觉得很make sense,我的GT成绩都达标的(730+,100+).我真不知道在哪方面出了问题？

everyone is different and unique!!! So what is your most unique character? why are you so different with other consultants?  Only yourself can answer the question, because we dont know you! only yourself know WHO YOU ARE!

Why gave up the big consulting firm but worked in a small firm? I believe you have your own reasons, and maybe, some reasons can show your faith, your thinking and plan of your future and career path. So did you show all the things in your essays? did you show a strong faith in your essay? did you show your strong self-awarness in your essay? did you show your dream in your essay? it is should not only be MAKE SENSE, but should be FULL OF PASSION, FAITH AND SELF-AWARNESS!

Did you do any meaningful community activities? what kind of contributions you made? why did you do these things? Showing your value, your faith and your understanding of life, business, leadership.... in your essays.

Besides, you only applied for one school, maybe it's HBS or GSB, if these schools reject you, it's very universal, how can you say "TOP 5 doesn't like person from a small firm". Try to apply for more schools, then you will get one.

just make sense is not enough, your essay should be EXCELLENT. dont think others who work in big companies are easier than you to get the interviews or offers, they also work hard and make contributions. So, for you, you really need to make everything very good, but not just make sense.

Hey there!  Happy to help you think through this great question.  It is true that in some cases, it is better to work for a BIG company.  But it is not ALWAYS true.  I always think back to real estate examples, since that was my background before I ran this company.  If you work for a big architecture company, you have a big name on your resume.  You also have worked on BIG deals—big famous buildings for example.  But what did you DO on those buildings?  You most likely designed doorknobs.  Designed door frames.  Selected heating vents.  That is NOT a lot of responsibility.  Now, another guy works for a small company that nobody has heard of.  And he has only designed small houses in the suburbs.  BUT.  He has done some COOL stuff.  He ran the zoning process.  HE did ALL the contractor negotiations.  And he did all the client management.  Who is the better applicant?  The second guy is, dude!  

So.  If you don’t have a great name on your app, focus on all the responsibilities that you DO have.  You will need to make up for the lack of pedigree with extra responsibility, and experience.  Take it from me—before going to HBS, I never worked for a big company.  But I did some cool stuff.    Hope this helps!

就算是6M/Y，在TOP5也不算overqualified，just a part of your track record.
