could 有两种用法，一个是CAN 的过去时态，用在一般过去时的语态中，但这题前面有remains,是现在时的；还有一个表可能，显然这里不是啦。所以应该用can

E）be able to错；to their parents错，要改为for their parents。而且表达很awkward
