PhD without strong math background

Hi Hi,

I plan to do PhD in accounting in US but I do not have a strong math background. Will it affect much of my application?

I got 50th in Math in GMAT. Does it compensate for not taking advanced math class?

I only took business statistics, applied calculus, and colleage algebra in my bachelor degree. In master degree ..... I did not take math class because I took MAcc.

同学，我想跟你说一下我的想法。去年我申请之前也是相当没有信心。所以给版主judy发了信问了问我的背景应该怎么定位。judy告诉我：“你这样的背景，还是算了吧。” 我失望了一段时间之后觉得我既然理智的觉得我想去试试，为什么单凭别人的几句话就打退堂鼓呢？无论你是什么背景，你去努力展示自己真诚的做好每一件你该做的事情你一定有收获。哪怕申请不成功，回头想想你的收获也是很大的。我在最后拿到了一个学校的offer，现在就读中。虽然很多人看不上我的program，但是我来到以后很喜欢我也很知足。很多人也觉得我们的program是undervalued了。不管怎样，我有收获。很多人都说judy很热情也有很多人在版上表达对judy说话太过消极的不满。我想，申请过程中，像judy一样提出一些问题让你清醒也是好的。但最重要的是，人不能放弃自己的目标不能做一颗墙头草。任何人的意见你都要去理性的看待而不能完全依靠。judy不是你，我们也不是你。只有你心里的声音才是最真实的也是最有力的。虽然过了很久才给你回复，我只是希望很多人都不要放弃。也希望你已经有好结果了。

楼主，GMAT分数提高其实不难，如果有时间的话。690真心的说有点低了，是你的package里面的硬伤。很多学校也许会用GMAT screen申请人（我猜的）。

另外，accounting也许跟finance不一样，if you go for empirical accounting research, 招生对数学要求可能其实没有那么高。但是也要修微观啊，计量啊等等的课程，所以数学功底差了也不行，只是说不是totally depend on数学。芝加哥大学前几年招去的人当中有的数学是不怎么好的，但是有的中途就读不下去走人了。

Hi, my background is bad ar. GMAT is so bad, now only 690. I did not take advanced math courses......... no research experience. That sucks........
