但是为何C错了呢？
Barbara McClintock发现的是a new class of mutant genes，这应该也能用it来指代吧。。我觉得D中DISCOVERY应该是一件事情，不如it好吧。。

但是我错了··

我觉得C错的原因是： 1. it不能指代前面整句
                                  2.  退一步说，it也不能指代a new class of mutant genes，因为a class of sth. 类似a number of sth, a group of sth是复数。

LS后来的分析有道理，这道题我也做错了，才想明白。

额，再详细说明下，这个句子是不是可以分两种方式理解，比如A做了XX，B做了XX，他们都是在While studying的情况下做的。第二种理解方式是，A做了XX，在while studying 下做的，然后B又做了XX。

如果是第一种理解方式的话就错了，因为B是it指代a new class of mutant genes，和后面的studying就对不上了。
