答案选的是B，except in，求指教！！

我的理解是,in 不是和Except 搭配的,而是和the domains搭配的.The English language was never really spoken on the island except in the domains of administration and teaching . on the land 和in the domain 其实是平行的~~各位NN,不知道我说得对不对?

我也觉得这里应该in不是搭在except的，这里就考虑except还是except for

前后是两个句子所以中间要用but连词  except in不算固定搭配吧  它的意思是说除了在administration and teaching这两个领域里（in the domain）其他地方都不说英语
