UCI is not a bad school by any means, but it just doesn't compare to UC Berkeley or UCLA and still lags behind UCSD and arguably UCSB and UC Davis.  But that's just general perception.  In terms of business, I would say it's probably right after UCSD.  I am also comparing its job opportunities against other top business schools, so it's all relative.

Historically, the UC system has been the best public higher education system in the nation.  So schools like UCSC or even UCR, which usually rank toward the bottom of the pile, are still better than a lot of schools in other states.  However, I would say the current fiscal crisis in California is impacting the bottom UCs, CSUs and communities a lot more so than the flagship schools (UC Berkeley and UCLA).  Those two still get a lot of external funding for research, etc, but other public schools just don't have the same resource.

In terms of all the UCs, here is the general perception, feel free to disagree:
1. UC Berkeley: top ranked academics in virtually every field, long history, flag ship UC, usually ranked best public in nation
2. UCLA: excellent academics (a tiny bit behind Cal, especially in engineering, but still very well known), gorgeous campus, great location in LA
3. UCSD: great academics, San Diego is a beautiful place to live
4. UCSB/UCD: both are strong in engineering, though location wise, UCSB is close to the beach and UCD is in Davis...
5. UCI: still very solid school
6. UCSC/UCR: toward the bottom of the pile, but like I said, still good schools.  UCSC has a great bio program
7. UC Merced: too new to comment

so by reputation, this is how I see MBA programs in California rank

Stanford (very strong international brand)
Haas (strong international brand)
UCLA (strong national brand)
USC (strong Regional, Southern California brand)
------------------
the others....

Honestly, it seems that everyone has an MBA right now.  So unless you get your MBA from the above 4 schools, it doesn't seem to make a huge difference which schools you go to.   So if your target school is below Top25, the best metrics to look at will be the career center data.  Try to see if those number look good and what types of jobs most graduates get.   My hunch is UC systems schools will definitely be better than Cal States programs.  epperdine probably sits in between those two categories.  just my 2 cents.
