这道题答案E..正确的。想问A为什么不对呢？
分词作后置状语从句修饰letters似乎也可以阿。。

楼上的说得有道理，确实outnumbering 放在后面有结果的嫌疑。句子重心按逻辑来讲应该是outnumber是谓语。。

A的结构从语法角度上看很完美，没有任何问题。但是从逻辑上来看有些问题，即written over a period与number之间并不是因果关系。因为这里的伴随状语只能用来表示结果的，这样子表达的意思变为：因为这些信写于某个时间段，所以他总数超过了他写给其他人的信。这个表达明显是有问题的。修改的方式有两个：1）把written over a period改为letters的定语从句 2）将were written与outnumber用and连接以表示两个关于信件但不是很相干的事实。

我觉得A对letter的修饰太多了，有点儿主次颠倒，这道题的意思应该以outnumber为主，而letter用which修饰比较好，而且A的outnumber修饰的对象也不清楚
