一道GWD的语法争议题

答案给的是E，我觉得应该选D
D中的charge over $16,000和前面的charge tuition and fees of under $8,000 a year 对称，charge前面省略了institutions of higher education
E中的those 可能有歧义，不知道是指代institutions of higher education 还是指代tuition and fees，如果要消除歧义，把E中的charging改为charge这样those就可以明确地指代institutions of higher education

这个题纠结点在于de选项，从比较结构省略这个角度来看： d：three times as many independent institutions of higher education charge tuition and fees of under $8,000 a year as（ independent institutions of higher education）charge over $16,000-----很明显省略了主语，补上之后句子意思是合理的  e: three times as many independent institutions of higher education charge tuition and fees of under $8,000 a year as those charging over $16,000(charge)-----很明显后面的句子有的成分是一个带着修饰定语的主语，那么省略的是谓语，补上谓语之后和定语中的charging重复了，而且相比较d更加简洁               另外一个区分点：（这里的those，用法也不对，一般用在比较结构里，those+限定修饰一般是为了和前面的比较对象做区别的，同一类型但不是完全相同的一个对象，这里的句子意思很明显是同一类人，但是一类charge under 8000，一类charge over 16000）

As long as both actions are performed by the same subject ("people"), we're good.

I have no idea how to analyze this comparison grammatically, nor should either you or I be terribly interested in doing so.
Just notice:
* People do both things.
* The parallelism is perfect.

同意，而且E选项charging的动词形式不对吧。

E中those的指代会优先就近指代fees但是those按道理说它的逻辑上应该指代institutions,所以有歧义，不好。
所以在E和D表面上看起来都可以选的时候E有致命伤，所以选D合理的省略了主语。

重点说说D E
1 首先 those一般不单用，单用的时候表示“人们”，划线外没有代表人的名词
2 其次，就是指代也是指代“independent institutions of higher education ”，这显然是逻辑错误，自己怎么能跟自己比。

E选项有点想OG大白鲨咬人那题里含有“ones”的选项，没有后面的限定词的时候，它们就直接指代了原句里的复数名词，而这极易比较中产生逻辑错误。
