我查了一下字典，
based on：if one thing is based on another, it uses it or is developed from it（以某事）为基础，为依据
base sth on sth: to use an idea, a fact, a situation, etc. as the point from which sth can be developed
根据字典的解释，可不可以理解为based on 的主语不为人，而base sth on 的主语为人，因而based on 修饰scholars不恰当？？

E好，我的理由是排除法：
A。Based on...., sb 前面的based 是过去分词，表示被动，所以它的主语应该是逗号后面紧跟的名词或代词。显然根据句意，scholars不是这个主语，是scholars基于什么内容，不是scholars被基于。
B。多了一个it。it是什么？没有得到立刻解答。
C。很让我纠结。如果在考试中，我就C和E当中选一个了。C的问题是used这个过去分词修饰谁不清楚。如果修饰的是accounts，那么为什么要basis？有点多余，且这个basis是什么后面也没解释。如果used修饰writers的话，就不符合逻辑意思了
D。they是谁？
所以，选E
