OG的解释为："Based on..."不能修饰主语"scholars"。按照这种说法的话，那么上面BY例题选项E中“based on...”修饰的是从句主语"the North American Indians"应该也是错误的。究竟我的理解有问题还是怎么回事儿呢？请各位高手指点迷津！谢谢！

第一句话中的based on就是很普通的就近修饰吧。。。修饰calendars

第二句中的based on做的是分词省略结构，修饰主语scholar

base 后面的内容应该是修饰calendar,意思是说这个calendar是在...的基础上而来的
