请教两个答案的区别

Q: South Korea has witnessed the World's .. growth of ... ; church membership is expanding by 6.6 percent a year, 2/3 of the growth coming from conversions rather than the population increasing.

B. coming from conversions rather than increases in the pupulation.

为什么原文不对呢？因为

1) the population increasing 本身表达就不对？why? 或

2）为了与convesions的形式保持一致？

increase既可以做动词也可以做名词，所以直接用increase就好了，不用increasing.
