The yield per acre of coffee berries varies enormously in that a single tree, depending on both its size and on climate and altitude, could produce enough berries to make between one and twelve pounds of dried beans a year.

The yield per acre of coffee berries varies enormously, because a single tree, depending on both its size and on climate and altitude, is able to produce enough berries to make between one and twelve pounds of dried beans a year.

used after a statement to begin to explain in what way it is true 。 I've been lucky in that I have never had to worry about money. 而in that则不一定。

103.    (29869-!-item-!-188;#058&004446)

The parachutelike membranes of Africa's scaly-tailed flying squirrels differ from those of the flying squirrels in the family Sciuridae because they are attached to a cartilage rod at the elbow instead of the wrist.

(A) because they are attached to a cartilage rod at the elbow instead of
(B) because of being attached to a cartilage rod at the elbow rather than at
(C) in their attachment to a cartilage rod at the elbow instead of being attached at
(D) in that they are attached to a cartilage rod at the elbow rather than at
(E) in their being attached to a cartilage rod at the elbow instead of

以前还真没注意过 can和be able to do 这么细过,谢谢!

The yield per acre of coffee berries varies enormously in that a single tree, depending on both its size and on climate and altitude, could produce enough berries to make between one and twelve pounds of dried beans a year.

depending on both...

关于can和be able to主要是要理解can比be able to多出"know how to do"这一层含义,pipil再理解一下。

I've been lucky in that I have never had to worry about money.

如果我们将 in that 改为because: I've been lucky because I have never had to worry about money.

          I have been lucky is true;后一种说法暗示钱是be lucky的唯一(或者说全局)决定因素。

The yield per acre of coffee berries varies enormously in that a single tree, depending on its size and on climate and altitude, could produce enough berries to make between one and twelve pounds of dried beans a year.

can和be able to的问题还是没明白,我再想想。

楼上,both on 。。。 就像not only,but(also)一样,各种变化层出不穷。

难道不是应该BOTH ON .. AND ON么。。

in that和because:
1.
Teratomas are unusual forms of cancer in that they are composed of tissues such as tooth and bone, tissues not normally found in the organ in which the tumor appears.

I've been lucky in that I have never had to worry about money.

3.

=========================================================================
can和be able to:
