对于which用法的一个疑问，恳请各位大佬帮忙解释一下

RON大神的解释是说，D选项中的which修饰前面的highlands，第一个是meaning不对，第二是highlands是复数，动词的单复数也错了。但是RON有一期课讲“which”的用法时好像说过，which是可以修饰the NOUN + PRE PHRASE that immediately precedes the comma。那D选项中为什么不能理解成which是修饰strategic position（noun）+ at the foot of the highland (pre phrase)呢？

RON说的which可以jump修饰prep前的名词的前提是这个介词也是在修饰名词，但距离which最近的of the highlands是在修饰the foot，而at the foot xxx 才是在修饰strategic position，我觉得隔了两个prep phrase还是不要jump的好~

首先，D选项中which修饰的是foot of the highlands，而不是strategic position at the foot of the highlands（战略位置能是source吗？显然地理位置才能是source），也不是highlands，我翻了下manhattan论坛上Ron的回复，Ron也没有说which修饰highlands。但是Ron说了，noun + prep phrase虽然可以用which修饰，但比较少见，尽量避免。所以E选项中用同位语a source来引导是更好的，但这不是选E的最关键的理由。D选项的句子结构式use its position in becoming，英语里没有这种说法，应该是use sth to do sth，所以选E。
