前面的解释都好好！总算明白点only在不同位置的意思区别了
另外这个题我觉得OG对于E的解释也有道理，only有修饰对象的歧义
E. The word only is misplaced, given the intended sense, and it is unclear whether it modifies the phrase as a source of vegetable oil, or the phrase second to soybeans. In either case it fails to capture the sense of the given sentence.

也不一定是   ”不是第三 也不是第四“  语意不对吧，only second to s 改变了原意second only to s
就像你说的两个位置希望表达和强调的意思不同

"Second only to" is an idiom, and therefore is preferred.  But I don't see any difference in meaning of "second only to" and "only second to", they both mean that the subject ranks Nr. 2.

I think the problem with E is that once "as a source of vegetable oil" is immediately placed after the comma, it shall add "which is", i.e. E should read "as a source of vegetable oil which is only second to soybeans.  

Does anyone have the official explanation for this question?

嗯 仔细想想如果是only second to soybean就是 相对大豆排第二，不是第三也不是第四，这样语义挺奇怪
如果说second only to soybean 仅此于大豆，不是高粱，也不是玉米，这样感觉语义正常许多
还是要考虑语义

only的作用是限制性的修饰。
A second only to B 是对B进行限制，A仅次于B。重心在B这个东西上。
A only second to B 是对second进行限制，A仅次于B。重心在次要这个动作上。
找到未划线句主干：sunflowers（主）have become（谓）a crop（宾）
划线句要干嘛？是要引出soybeans这个东西来突出sunflowers的属性。
修饰的题类似的还蛮多的，一定要判断出句子的主干和核心意思。

抛开这道题，我感觉only second to这个表达本身就存在逻辑错误，only对second的修饰感觉毫无逻辑可言...
