各位同学们大家好，我们是今年罗切斯特大学西蒙商学院Admission Office 的Admission Ambassador，分别来自MS Finance, MS Accountancy专业。去年的时候，因为看了我们Admission Office的Graduate Assistant的介绍觉得特别好，所以今年也开了同样的帖子。

因为觉得去年的帖子已经介绍的比较完整，今天也没有过多的变化，我们在这里就不再赘述。主要是分享一下我们的学习生活感受。并且如果大家对Simon有什么好奇的，感兴趣的请贴上自己的问题，我们都会尽量回答。

(3/15/2017 紧急更新）
由于#美东大暴雪#我们R4的申请截止日期也从2017年3月15日延期到2017年3月19日的11:59pm（美东时间）。只要在3月19日之前申请都会被作为class of 2018的R4考虑。还有想要申请的同学抓紧时间啦！

(2/2/2017 更新）

这次更新要给大家带来两个好消息！

第一个是Simon的MSF专业在今年转变为STEM designation了。相信大多同学都知道STEM对于留学生的好处，除了原来的一年OPT外，留学生还可以多续2年工签。转为STEM后我们中国学生在美国不需要H1B抽签就可以工作三年。STEM designation从2016届开始，也可以想象以后留美的alumni的数量会大大提升。

第二个是今年Simon在各个机构的排名都有一定程度的提升，特别是在Financial Times of London的world for finance排名位列第二。

In the last year, the percentage of domestic applications has increased by 40 percent, total applications have increased by 24 percent, 79 percent of Full-Time MBA students accepted jobs by graduation, and 95 percent accepted jobs by three months after graduation...."

**10月29日更新**小广告又来啦！ 对simon有兴趣的同学我们在11月和12月有好几场webinar（在线研讨会）是完全免费开放给所有学生的，每场研讨会会有学生代表，教授代表和career center代表参加进行一个panel discussion。研讨会可以让同学们更好的从不同角度了解simon，有问题也可以积极提问。以下我会贴出各个webinar的信息和注册链接， 希望大家能踊跃参与。

Answer for Frequently Asked Questions
之前看到大家对于application ddl还有发面试都有很多疑问，于是我集中问了Maureen，以下是她给出的答案。
并且！！Maureen现在也在线，希望大家有什么问题积极提问。如果你没能及时提问，此贴和微博一直有效哦，随时给我们提问。


1. In the website, it notes that first round decision date is Dec 15, 2016. So student wonder if the school gives offer early than that or only by that date?

We cannot guarantee a decision prior to the notification deadline for each round.

2. Does school give out all the Round 1 interviews? Or students will still have the chance to receive an interview in round 2, 3 etc even they submit for round 1 deadline?

There is a possibility to receive an invitation to interview up until the notification deadline of each round, when you are guaranteed a decision by.




3. Does student need both TOEFL and IELTS for the application or either one will be fine?

You only need one and we accept both! We prefer above a 100 on the TOEFL (with sections in the mid 20’s) and a 7.5 or higher on the IELTS (with sections 7.0 or higher).




4. This question is from an MSMA candidate and he/she wonder the possibility of admitting into this program with a sociology background. But he/she did note that he/she has taken some quantitative courses during undergraduate study.

We will be looking to see some quantitative course work in your background, but certainly accept students with all different academic backgrounds. It will be helpful to also gain some related internship experience in the industry you are interested in. *You can direct them to view the program class profile which gives more information on academic backgrounds (for example here is the MSMA Class Profile: http://simon.rochester.edu/programs/full-time-ms/academics/programs/marketing/class-profile/index.aspx, you can see 34% came from a Humanities and Social Science major).



关于各种社团和活动更新
因为MSF小编目前在两个社团里面活动（Simon Investment Club 和 Simon Venture Capital Fund），所以趁这个时间给大家一些insight。


Simon Investment Club：学校之前应该是有三个不同的finance club，但今年全部并成了一个Simon Investment Club.每周二中午都会有regular meeting，会邀请speaker或者学生做pitch。其他活动还包括stock competition， pitch competition等。
SIC在每年9月份左右都会公开招收新的analyst，分为investment banking division 和equity research division。Investment banking division 目前是只要有兴趣都可以自愿参加，在周二的例会给大家分享你的M&A Pitch。Equity Research division选analyst时要先提交你的一个比较简短的pitchbook，然后有一个15分钟左右的面试。
小编现在在equity research division当analyst，建议如果对这方面有兴趣对的同学可以积极参与。值得一提的是，今天equity research team刚组成了一个advisory board，里面的成员都是Simon Alumni，已经在行业里工作了很久。
不论是advisory board还是team里面的MBA都会给你提供很好学习经验。



Simon Venture Capital Fund:
正如这个fund的名字，这个fund是偏向于做VC投资。9月份到10月份也会进行新的analyst的招生。然后会根据人数把所有人分配到不同的team做不同的deal。一般一个team的组成是一个MBA leader加两个MS student。当然MS学生也可以直接申请senior analyst当team lead，今年就有好几个MS学生比较有经验直接当了lead。
组成team之后，小组就会对不同的business进行evaluate然后决定投不投资。也可能是之前已经投资过的star-up然后进行follow up的投资。

仔細查了一查美國商學院最旗艦的MBA排名走勢, 明白了為甚麼推廣Simon的經常在講老牌, 就是因為他家MBA的排名不斷的在跌(which is a excellent proxy of the ranking of US business school), 在2014/15左右更是跳了一次崖, 除了已逝的輝煌(??)之外, 沒有其他好賣點了.

Simon商学院成立的年份就是finance设立的年份。------------------------一、finance和Master of Science in Finance是两个概念吧！53#楼在偷换概念吧！请举例一个在1970年前毕业于Simon的MSF项目的可查实的毕业生！二、同样的学分，Simon商学院安排的课时少了就是少了，而且还少了相当比例的课时，说白了，Simon商学院安排的课时比其他30多个学分的一年MSF项目并不多！西蒙商学院运营者为了多收钱，心机是非常深的！可以说到了挖空心思的地步！难道别的学校的MSF项目的老师不布置课后作业和课后实践的吗？

小伙伴，先回答你第一个课程时长的问题
一、你要考虑，Simon msf 一周5门课，两门3小时的课，三门1小时30 ...

一, 如果你要加上課後活動作比較的話, 其他學校的也得加上. 別的學校一樣有team work, competition, projects and etc....

至於"每晚每周末都需要工作到凌晨"的原因可以有很多, e.g.
- project作業真的很多....
- 聰明的學生根本沒幾個會去Rochester, 資質不夠的自然做得慢
- 學生太喜歡party, 扮network.....
- 還有其他各種各種的可能性, 不猜了......

其實樓主指出的問題其實不主要在teaching hour, 而是在學費....


二, 和MIT比就別開玩笑了.................finance根本第一就是看校名.....讀general finance還去比workload, 忙不忙碌學不學到東西, 你以為是science / engineernig 之類的technical major? 呵呵.......只能說祝你好運了.......
